Biltmore Estate Merlot- Wine Tasting 2

Name: Biltmore Estate

Variety: Merlot

Region: Asheville, NC

Country: United States

Vintage Year: 2019

Price: $14

Winery Review: Smooth, slightly dry, touch of sweetness and a small bite. A delicious and sophisticated wine. It certainly lives up to the standards of the Vanderbilt family.

Wine Folly: "Merlot is loved for it's boisterous black cherry flavors, supple tannins, and smoky or chocolaty finish. It's often found in a Bordeaux blend with Cabernet Franc. Merlot tastes great alongside roasted foods like pork shoulder, roasted mushrooms, or braised short ribs. Try complementing the fruit notes with chimichurri sauce" (pg. 131)

My Review: This lighter-colored red wine has a soft red wine smell with hints of vanilla. This wine tastes different from other red wines I have tried. Very heavy dark cheery taste but, as it aerates you begin to taste more vanilla. I felt the soft tannins after the first sip. This semi-dry wine feels heavy on the tongue. I did not like that after the first hit of fruit, the wine tastes dull. Very soft on the throat and leaves behind a subtle vanilla taste. Although this wouldn't be my first choice of wine, I still enjoyed a glass! Overall, I give Biltmore Estate's Merlot a 5/10.

I tasted this on its own with no food.

Cheers,
